Classic motorcycles that are more than 40 years old are exempt from the charges under the new London Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ).

However, more modern motorcycles have to meet a NOx (nitric oxide and nitrogen dioxide) target of 01.15g/km, which is basically the Euro 3 emissions limits applied from July 2007. Some earlier motorcycles do also meet the limit but may not be registered as Euro 3.

You can check whether your motorcycle meets the standards here: https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/check-your-vehicle/

The Zone expanded at the end of August 2023 to cover London boroughs right up to the M25 circular motorway. Vehicles that are not compliant with the emission limits or are under 40 years old will have to pay a daily charge of £12.50 if they enter the zone.

Roads entering the ULEZ have cameras capturing vehicles, just like the previous Inner London ULEZ and Congestion Charge area – although there are reports of cameras being disabled by protestors.

If you fail to pay the ULEZ charge by the deadline (currently three days after your trip), the penalty is £180, halved to £90 if paid within 14 days.
