A network of at least ten ‘vertiports’ are to be developed and built across Florida, USA to operate the Lilium electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft.

The vertiports will be a joint venture between Ferrovial, a leading infrastructure operator worldwide, and Lilium, the German aviation company. They will be located in major cities across Florida to provide an environmentally friendly alternative transport network.

The first location in South Florida will be announced in Spring 2021.

Daniel Wiegand, CEO and co-founder of Lilium said, “Our partnership with Ferrovial to develop flight infrastructure is a critical step in delivering the potential of regional air mobility to provide high speed, affordable, emissions-free travel to millions of people.

“As we accelerate our launch plans, Lilium is committed to partnering with industry leaders, bringing together their strengths and experience with our aircraft technology and passenger service infrastructure. We’re excited about what we will achieve together.”

“Nearly all 20 million Floridians will live within 30 minutes of our vertiports and the 140 million annual visitors to the Sunshine State will have a high-speed option available to travel to their destinations,” added Dr Remo Gerber, COO of Lilium.

Ferrovial Airports operates 33 airports around the world, including the United States, Australia and Chile. Ferrovial is also the largest shareholder and industrial partner in Heathrow Airport, the busiest hub in Europe, and holds 50% stake in Glasgow, Aberdeen and Southampton airports.
