Here’s an opportunity to snap up a Ducati 900SS at what appears to be a bargain price – on live auction with Bonham’s The Market.
UPDATE: Sold for £2,875.
It’s a 1995 model, one of the final production runs of the aircooled vee-twin SuperSport (hence ‘SS’) that goes back to the 1970s. Early ones now sell for astonishing amounts. Bonhams sold a 1974 Ducati 750 SuperSport for just shy of £100,000 back in 2018 and I doubt the market for these Italian twins has cooled off.
This one is being sold as a non-runner, having been placed into dry storage back in 2016. But a quick look over the photos shows a motorcycle in good condition, with nice spec and finish. It’s most certainly not a basketcase but will need a thorough going over to recommission it back into use.
The Bonhams copywriter included some great quotes from writer Hunter S Thompson (Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas among many memorable books):
“The Ducati 900 is a finely engineered machine. My neighbors called it beautiful and admired its racing lines. The nasty little bugger looked like it was going 90 miles an hour when it was standing still in my garage.”
“My bike is so much faster than yours that I dare you to ride it, you lame little turd. Do you have the balls to ride this BOTTOMLESS PIT OF TORQUE?”
“Some people will tell you that slow is good — and it may be, on some days — but I am here to tell you that fast is better. I’ve always believed this, in spite of the trouble it’s caused me. Being shot out of a cannon will always be better than being squeezed out of a tube.”
